We here at Pie-Supply.com love and adore Pushing Daisies!

We love the hilariously named "Pie Hole", the quick and witty dialog, the achingly sweet love story and especially the pies.

Actually, we think that the pies, like Ned, Emerson, Chuck and Olive, have an vital roll in each and every episode.

We are so convinced that the pies are the backbone to the plot and characters-- that we have taken upon ourselves to provide:

  • pie analysis
  • pie references
  • pie recipes

for each of Pushing Daisies' lovely episodes.

Episode 1: Pie-lette

First aired: 10/3/2007

He decides to use this ability of his to solve crimes. But this proves complicated when he gives life back to his childhood crush, and decides to let her keep living.

The show opens, introducing us to Ned as a child. Through the tragic death of his mother, we learn that Ned can, just by touch, bring wake people from the dead, but only for 60 seconds.

We meet Ned as an adult and find that he runs a lovely pie shop, the brilliantly named "Pie Hole". Partnered with Private Eye, Emerson Cod, Ned reluctantly uses his ability to bring people back from dead in order to discover who killed them and collect the reward. This becomes complicated when his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles is murdered. With renewed affection, Ned desides to let her live, knowing that someone else must take her place.

Pie Analysis:

Olive, the cheerful waitress at the Pie Hole, is much like us here at Pie-Supply.com. She starts her day by focusing all of her love one pie, and by the end of the day - she has sold more of that kind of pie than any other.

She notes the Rhubarb is her pie du jour, when advising the curmudgeonly Emerson on possible pie choices. This "pie- exchange" symbolizes the relationship between Emerson and Olive.

The only time that Emerson focuses all his love on a pie is when he is eating it, and any sentementality fades with the dissappearance of the pie. Olive's ever-lasting optimism is the core of her character, and is tested by Emerson at every turn.

So, he orders Three Plum instead.
